
The United Team Sierra Leone (U Team SL) formerly know as United Team of Pujehun District, commonly known as the UN Team Pujehun, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, (MoYA), through the Young Women Leading Change Innovation Challenge formally launched the teenage pregnancy campaign in Pujehun district, on Saturday the 25th of January 2025. The launching was hosted in Zimmi town, Makpele chiefdom, Pujehun district, Southern Sierra Leone with the theme “Girls Too Challenge”: Abolish Teenage Pregnancy and Create Safe Spaces for Girls. As part of the broad outreach responsibility of the UN Team Pujehun, the Secretariat was supported to reach out to community people including girls, partners and stakeholders, to have an enliven conversation on teenage pregnancy reduction in the district.

The official launching of the Young Women Leading Change Innovation Challenge enhanced
the following impacts / achievements:
• Increased in community awareness and response on teenage pregnancy reduction
strategy (Social Impact)
• Increased in community ownership, participation and established safe spaces for
teenage girls (Environmental Impact)
• Increased in community development initiatives and supportive programmes
(Economic Impact)
• Increased community knowledge on channels to communicate teenage pregnancy
information, child marriage and other major sexual offenses (Legal Impact)
• Enhanced adequate channel of communication between the community, girls,
stakeholders, government, donors / sponsors, other partners / institutions and the UN

Next Step / Way Forward
U Team SL will continue to sustain the legacy of the Young Women Leading Change
Innovation Challenge intervention through the following series:
Provision of IEC Materials and other Materials (Banner, stickers, megaphones
etc): The objective is to amplify the message of teenage pregnancy reduction campaign
through various means
Conduction of Public Education & Awareness Raising Campaign on Teenage
Pregnancy Reduction (Media Engagements, Workshops, Schools Visitations,
FGDs, PHUs, Safe Spaces / Girls Clubs Visitation etc): The objective is to help
educate the wilder populace on the teenage pregnancy reduction campaign, educate
teenage girls on the use of contraceptives and to build community knowledge on the
teenage pregnancy policies / laws
Continuous support to the established Safe Spaces / Girls Clubs: The objective is
to support the running of the Safe Spaces / Girls Clubs for adolescent girls within the
Pujehun district
Conduct training for Mentors within the established Safe Spaces / Girls Clubs:
The objective is to build the knowledge of mentors on teenage pregnancy reduction
mechanisms, therein after, to provide guidance to adolescent girls in the Safe Spaces /
Girls Clubs, schools and communities
Facilitate monthly meetings for Girls on Safe Spaces / Girls Clubs: The objective
is to help create ownership among adolescent girls with regards the reduction of teenage
pregnancy in the district
Conduct Quarterly Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting on project
implementation: The objective is to monitor and report on project implementation for
appropriate feedbacks and actions
Administrative Programme and Reporting (Narrative and Financial): The
objective is to provide effective coordination process of the project and develop final
project report for the attention of donors and the general public
