ABOUT U TEAM SL (UNITED TEAM SIERRA LEONE)

 Background:

United Team Sierra Leone also known as U Team SL was founded in 2014 and initially registered as a Community-Based Organization under the name United Team of Pujehun District (UN Team Pujehun). The organization due to its hard work and dedication to service delivery gained formal national recognition on January 1, 2018 which has expanded its vision and mandate.

Between March 8th – 10th 2024, the organization hosted its first conference at the Galliness Paradise Hotel, Bo City. The event was attended by many young people and membership across the country. In cognizance of the vital stakeholder leadership role the organization is playing geared towards the collective development of Sierra Leone, the organization has gained both local and international recognition.

The United Team Sierra Leone (U Team SL) launched its Strategic Development Plan (SDP), as the first plan in a programme of six-year (ranging from agenda 2024 to 2030), specifically designed towards the full implementation of development activity in Sierra Leone. It was prepared by members of the U Team SL in a three-day Conference organized by the U Team SL at the Galliness Paradise Hotel, Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone, on the 8th, 9th and 10th March 2024. The Report was later validated and approved in a nationwide conference organized by the U Team SL held in Pujehun District Council Hall on November 7th, 8th and 9th 2025.

In line with its mission to strengthen and support youth-led initiatives for national development, the organization has undertaken a public outreach effort to assess its impact and progress over the years. Knowing the need to expand beyond its initial focus on Pujehun District, the general membership has unanimously agreed to broaden the organization’s mandate and scope to both national and international levels.

Recognizing the pivotal role and responsibility of young Sierra Leonean citizens, geared toward national development, the secretariat has consented to formalize the operations of the organization at national and international levels. Against this background therefore, the general membership of the UN Team Pujehun have unanimously agreed to change its name from “United Team of Pujehun District”, abbreviated as (UN Team Pujehun) to “U Team SL”, represented as (United Team Sierra Leone). This change reflects the organization’s effort and commitment to fostering volunteerism, mentorship, peace, unity, development, and progress across Sierra Leone and beyond.

The membership of the U Team SL shall take full control, authority and power over the smooth running of the organization. The signatories of the founding members shall be the principal signatories in every correspondence, followed by that of the registered and appointed members.

Preamble:

In responseto the dire plight of critically determined youth who are struggling to achieve better life standards in the present and future, the founders of “U Team SL” deemed it necessary to foster peace, unity, creative and innovative youth-driven solutions that secure sustainable developmental growth for every Sierra Leonean citizen, especially young people through volunteerism, contribution and effective service delivery that will promote national interest.

The fundamental goal of the U Team SL is about supporting and promoting the creative, innovative and transformative plan of young Sierra Leonean citizens working to create change in their communities. Further, the U Team SL will establish modern youth-led initiatives to foster young people’s contribution in nation building; including measures that will help to address the issue of youth unemployment, provide them access to mentorship programmes, political empowerment, gender equality, social justices, financial and non-financial opportunities, overcoming barriers and fostering unity, and as well as providing innovative and creative ideas to enhance professional and diplomatic ethics, climate action and sexual and reproductive health and rights to name many but a few.

And whereas, we determine to dynamically, positively and effectively improve the economic, social and democratic conditions of the people of Sierra Leone through the implementation and promotion of activities as provided by the objectives of this organisation, and in recognition of the common characteristics. Based on the social-economic, political and cultural problems the people of the Sierra Leone face, particularly young people. In addition, we all agree that the constitution of the U Team SL shall be the supreme law of the U Team SL for the formulation, implementation, protection and promotion of the organisation (U Team SL), the general membership and any activity under its power and authority within Sierra Leone and beyond.
