United Team Sierra Leone – U Team SL’s mission featured strategic stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and regional development collaboration across the Mano River Union and ECOWAS sub-region

A delegation from the United Team Sierra Leone (U Team SL) paid a diplomatic visit to the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Monrovia, Liberia, Her Excellency Josephine Nkrumah, on February 13, 2026, seeking to strengthen their relationship and build meaningful networks with institutions and individuals in the sub-region. The delegation, led by Watta Koroma, expressed sincere thanks and appreciation for the good work of ECOWAS in the sub-region.

Watta Koroma stated that their visit to ECOWAS aimed to initiate partnerships, explore opportunities, and seek guidance on registration under the ECOWAS Youth, Sport & Development Centre, to be hosted in Monrovia, Liberia, and the ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development in Dakar, Senegal.

She presented a brief overview of U Team SL since its establishment in 2014, and Mr. Abdulai Jabaty Kanneh, U Team SL Head of Legal Affairs, provided a condensed note on the U Team SL’s 6-year Strategic Development Plans (2024-2030).

The Head of the U Team SL Secretariat, Mr. Mohamed Kallon, and other speakers presented a compendium of successes and challenges since the organization’s establishment as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) in 2014 and its national registration as a development organization in 2025.

In her statement, the ECOWAS Resident Representative, H.E. Josephine Nkrumah, commended U Team SL for their commendable work, emphasizing that, in her view, U Team SL is one of the most organized and coordinated youth groups she has interacted with in the sub-region.

As a lawyer, she encouraged U Team SL members to promote ECOWAS priorities, good governance, rule of law, democracy, human rights, and women’s rights in the sub-region. H.E. Josephine Nkrumah encouraged youth groups like U Team SL to focus on agriculture and technical skills, such as TVET programs, to promote human capital development and prosperity.

She noted that many young people in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Africa can achieve success through technical skills, even if they are not lawyers or medical doctors, and that creativity and innovation will be key to sustaining Africa’s heritage. She emphasized that honesty, transparency, commitment, and accountability are essential for organizational growth and sustainability, encouraging U Team SL to work together to promote humanity and organizational interests.

H.E. Josephine Nkrumah assured U Team SL that ECOWAS is owned by the people of Africa and is ready to collaborate with young people to promote democracy, good governance, prosperity, and peace.
She mentioned that ECOWAS has established the ECOWAS Youth, Sport and Development Centre in Liberia and will work with Sierra Leone and other countries to execute priority areas. She is ready to collaborate with U Team SL to achieve its mission and vision.

The delegation presented an Award of Recognition to H.E. Josephine Nkrumah, acknowledging ECOWAS’ commitment to regional integration, peace, security, and prosperity, and enhancing economic stability and growth, social progress, and cultural exchange in West Africa. The award highlighted her contributions to ECOWAS and regional cooperation.

The delegation’s visit underscores U Team SL’s commitment to fostering regional integration and cooperation, aligning with its motto, “We Are Stronger Together.”

The successful meeting has paved the way for future collaborations, with both parties looking forward to implementing agreed-upon strategies. U Team SL’s diplomatic efforts in Liberia demonstrate its dedication to promoting regional development and cooperation.
