Teenage Pregnancy continues to negatively affect the developmental growth of Pujehun district; including health complications, infant and maternal mortality rate, malnutrition, increased dropouts, psychosocial issues, child marriage, child parent, and poverty to name many but a few. Therefore, the vision of this intervention is to reduce teenage pregnancy in Makpele chiefdom and Pujehun district at large; through by creating missive awareness on the negatives effect of teenage pregnancy and advocate for an enable environment for teenage girls.
With support from UNFPA & MOYA, the United Team of Pujehun (UN -Team Pujehun), launched the Pujehun Girls’ Parliament – a mock parliament of 14 adolescent representatives from all 14 chiefdoms in Pujehun district. This platform will empower girls to advocate for their rights, influence policies, and tackle teenage pregnancy and child marriage. As a way of sustaining the Young Women Leading Change Innovation Challenge, UNFPA, MOYA and UN Team Pujehun are supporting efforts led by girls and young women to drive action to end child marriage and reduce teenage pregnancy in Pujehun district and Sierra Leone at large.
