Ending Teenage Pregnancy In Pujehun District Through School-To-School Tour
The United Team Sierra Leone (U Team SL) formerly United Team of Pujehun District, known as UN -TEAM Pujehun, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) – UNFPA Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sierra Leone (MoYA), has on Wednesday 19th February 2025 commenced a public education campaign on teenage pregnancy in selected schools across Pujehun district.

Holy Rosary Secondary School (HRSS), Pujehun District
The School-To-School initiative is part of their ongoing commitment to eradicate teenage pregnancy under the theme “Girls Too Challenge”: Abolish Teenage Pregnancy and Create Safe Spaces for Girl

Khadija Fawundu, Team Lead for UN Team Pujehun, emphasized that this campaign builds on the success of the Young Women Leading Change Innovation Challenge. The upcoming Girls Parliament aims to create safe spaces and empower adolescent girls by ensuring equal opportunities for all in the district.


St. Steven Technical Vocational Senior Secondary School in Gobaru town, Pujehun District
During the visit at St. Steven Technical Vocational Senior Secondary School, Khadija Fawundu announced that the Girls Parliament will be officially launched on March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day celebrations. Stakeholders, pupils and organizations across the district will be invited to participate.

“The overarching goal is to end teenage pregnancy, child marriage, sexual offenses, violence, gender bias, poverty, school dropouts, negative norms, and other threats against girls in Pujehun district,” Khadija stated.

Smart Stars Academy for Science and Technology in Yonni town, Pujehun District
Joseph E. V. Moore, a member of UN Team Pujehun focusing on Research, Peace, and Development Committee, highlighted the significance of the Girls Parliament in empowering girls to amplify their voices across the district.

“We will select girls from all fourteen chiefdoms in Pujehun district to serve as parliamentarians, advocating for issues affecting them as teenagers,” Moore explained. He emphasized that this platform will foster female leadership and career pathways for girls in the district. Moore also mentioned plans to establish school clubs under the Girls Parliament to support girls in realizing their full potential at home and school.

Government Secondary School (GSS) Massa Kpaka, Pujehun District
The school engagements, accompanied by dedicated members like Mohamed Kallon, Foday Ben Kamara, Alfreda Omur Kpaka and Christopher Mammoh, received positive feedback during visits to four secondary schools in Pujehun district: Holy Rosary Secondary School (HRSS), St. Stephen Technical Vocational Secondary School (STVSS), Government Secondary School (GSS) Massam, and Smart Star Academy for Science and Technology.

Students and school authorities enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, seeing the Girls Parliament as a transformative opportunity for girls to assert their roles in their communities, network with peers, share ideas, and support each other.
